Ever since the '65 Mustang Convertible was released by Hot Wheels in the 1980's, it has always sported an opening hood. Collectors have always liked the Mustang and it has had it share of releases.
One of the variations that has always been found with the opening hood Mustang is the painted engine variation. It's where the engine is painted the same color as the car. Seems like this variation has been found on every '65 Mustang Convertible release.
When the Mustang 50th five pack was released in 2014, there were two different '65 Mustang Convertible castings being found in it. Sadly one of those was a retooling that did away with the opening hood. This was not something collectors wanted to see but it did make the Mustang look more slick with more detailed body lines.
Ever since the retooling came out there has been a lingering question that has yet to be answered. What would these painted engine variations go to as far as value. So far the market has stayed around the same price range but if Mattel does stay with the retool, which we figure they will, expect the painted engine variations to increase in value. May not increase that much but they will increase some.
